Power system studies

Analysis that survives the network operator’s review.

Every connection offer, compliance submission and plant upgrade rests on studies that have to stand up to scrutiny. We run the full set for substations and grid connections, state our assumptions plainly, and hand over models you can reuse.

Studies are only useful if the people reviewing them believe the inputs. Ours are built from data we can trace — network operator models, manufacturer curves, site measurements — and every report opens with the assumptions and the limits of what it can tell you.

We work in the analysis platform your network operator accepts, and models and settings files are handed over in native format at close-out so they remain useful after the project ends.

Steady state & fault

  • Contingency (N-1) and outage assessment
  • Reactive power capability — P-Q envelopes at the connection point

Grid Code & G99 compliance

  • EREC G99 and GB Grid Code compliance study packs
  • Fault ride-through (FRT) and fast fault current injection (FFCI)
  • Dynamic voltage response and reactive capability demonstration
  • ER P28 transformer energisation and voltage step assessment
  • Harmonic assessment to ER G5/5 (and legacy G5/4), including filter design where required
  • Flicker and unbalance assessment

Protection

  • Protection co-ordination and grading studies
  • Relay setting calculations and settings files
  • CT and VT sizing, stability and saturation checks

Common questions

Which studies does a G99 or Grid Code connection need?

It depends on the plant type, size and connection voltage. A typical package includes load flow and fault level, reactive capability, fault ride-through and fast fault current injection, dynamic voltage response, harmonic assessment to ER G5/5 and P28 energisation. We scope the set against the connection offer before quoting.

What information do you need to start?

The connection offer, a single line diagram, plant data sheets or manufacturer models, and the network data the operator has provided. If something is missing we tell you what to ask the operator for.

Which software do you use?

The platform your network operator accepts for the study in question. Models and settings files are handed over in native format so they remain useful to you after the project.

How long does a study take?

Most single studies complete within a few weeks once inputs are agreed; compliance packages take longer. We scope and fix the price up front rather than estimating by the hour.
