About
An independent consultancy built around senior engineers.
Unit Vector Solutions was founded on HVDC control and protection work and has grown into a full high-voltage engineering practice — without growing the layers between you and the person doing the work.
About Unit Vector Solutions
A small team, chosen for depth rather than headcount.
Unit Vector Solutions Ltd is an independent UK consultancy. Our engineers have spent their careers inside utilities, OEMs and tier-one contractors, which means we understand the standards a design will be judged against and the commercial pressures on the people asking for it.
We stay deliberately lean. Clients deal directly with the engineer doing the work, our overheads stay low, and we bring in trusted specialists rather than pretending to cover everything in-house.
- Buildability firstWe design for the people who will install and commission it, not only for the drawing.
- Direct access to seniorsNo layers between you and the engineer accountable for the deliverable.
- Assumptions on the recordEvery study states its inputs and limits, so results can be challenged and reused.
- Committed to net zero deliveryMost of what we work on exists to connect low-carbon generation to the grid.
Standards & assurance
How we work, and to what.
- Standards
- BS EN and IEC standards, National Grid and DNO technical specifications, Engineering Recommendations and the Distribution and Grid Codes.
- Safety
- Design carried out under CDM 2015 duties, with designer risk assessment and buildability review in every package.
- Quality
- Documented check and approval on every deliverable, with independent verification available for safety-critical work.
- Tools
- Industry-standard analysis and design software, with model and settings files handed over in native format at close-out.
- Engagement
- Fixed-price packages, call-off framework support, or embedded engineers within your own project team.

How we deliver
A route from connection offer to energisation.
Clients join us at whichever stage they need. The value of covering all five is that decisions made early are made by people who know what they cost later.
Feasibility
Options, constraints, connection strategy and an honest view of cost and programme risk.
Design
FEED through detailed design, studies and specification, co-ordinated across primary and secondary.
Procurement
Tender packages, technical evaluation, supplier negotiation and delivery expediting.
Construction
Issued-for-construction drawings, technical queries, temporary works interfaces and site support.
Commissioning
FAT and SAT, settings application, energisation support and as-built close-out.
Careers
Experienced engineers, and the ones who will be.
We are always interested in hearing from primary and secondary design engineers, power systems analysts, HVDC control specialists, BIM modellers and commissioning engineers — whether for a specific project or a longer conversation.
Talk to the engineer, not the account manager.
Every enquiry is answered by a senior engineer who can scope the work with you on the first call.
